Rudy came into our lives as a puppy and was right by our side for 15 wonderful years. As a Jack Russell he loved to run and we were fortunate that we had that space behind our house for long walks in the evening or playing chuck-it with a tennis ball, which he could catch on the fly after just one bounce with incredible leaping agility. Rudy was great with children and played for hours with them around the swimming pool running around the deck where splashes and laughter spellbound his attention until everyone was safely out and quiet. Trips to the beach were also a favorite time running after seagulls that always flew off at the last second or after squirrels that were just a half step ahead before darting up a tree.
As you can see, Rudy had soulful eyes and an expressive personality that told you he knew exactly what you were communicating, even if you didn’t verbalize it. He was a sweet companion that just knew when you needed his head on your knee or soft lick on the face, leg or hand. He had a cat that he loved too and he and Sammy were great friends, sleeping side by side or engaged in a short chase, whatever felt right that day between them.
We were lucky that we could bring Rudy to work with us every day in the family business, after all, he was family too. He also slept by our side every night. His mind was sharp and eyes still expressive even as his 15th birthday neared, but he became weaker in body. We tried everything we could do to keep him with us as long as possible and fix anything that we could that would extend our time. It broke our hearts to have to say goodbye to him. Anyone who met or knew him often used the same words to describe Rudy – that he was amazing, and he was. Rest in peace sweet boy, we will never forget you.
A donation was made in Rudy's memory and the memorial was created on May 7, 2019.
